CORRINE (RESCUE ME ~ MAIL~ORDER BRIDES - Book 5) by Author NANCY FRASER *BOOK BIRTHDAY*

Welcome back to Romance Sweet Reads. Today we're going to continue with our feature of a new series of sweet/inspirational, western historical romances. The series, RESCUE ME (Mail-Order Brides) consists of twenty-five books, releasing once per week, every Monday. So, sit back and enjoy!

The fifth book in the Rescue Me (Mail Order Brides) series, is Corrine, by Author Nancy Fraser.

Twenty-two-year-old Corrine Peyton is one of Boston’s richest debutantes. Beautiful, educated, and motherless. Left a substantial inheritance from her late-mother’s estate, she could easily support herself for the rest of her life and never have to worry about marrying for any reason other than love.

Unfortunately, for Corrine, her stepfather has designs on her fortune. In order to get control, he plans to have her declared incompetent and sequestered in a mental hospital.

When she’s unable to find a solicitor willing to help her fight her stepfather’s charges, Corrine makes the decision to run away. A chance discovery of local mail-order bride service leads her to apply. They quickly find her a match. An Oregon rancher is looking for wife to help him run his home and business. He makes a formal offer through the service, which Corrine accepts. However, she has conditions.

Will Aiden Thomas accept his potential bride’s demands? And, when Corrine’s stepfather sends Pinkerton men looking for his runaway meal ticket, will Aiden be willing to put his life on the line to protect her?

Available exclusively on Kindle Unlimited

Aiden shifted from one booted foot to the other, as nervous as his old hound in the middle of a thunderclapper. Right on time, the stage pulled up in front of the depot and he pushed himself away from the wall in front of the mercantile. He’d give them a moment or two to get settled before he closed the last thirty feet and introduced himself.

Ebb Rawlings, the station manager, was there to meet the coach, as was Sheriff Denning. As soon as the driver jumped to the ground, Ebb reached for the handle and yanked the door open, offering his hand to the first passenger.

A woman Aiden guessed to be in her mid-forties stepped down first, her meaty hand clutching tightly to Ebb’s skinnier one. “How long do I have to freshen up?” the woman asked.

“Thirty minutes, ma’am,” Ebb responded, turning sideways to watch as the woman sashayed her way toward the cafĂ©.

The next to disembark was Toby Grassley—the blacksmith’s son—no doubt on his way back from picking up supplies in Albany. Another man, unknown to Aiden, followed Toby. Then, nothing.

Had his intended missed the stage?

On his way to ask Ebb if that were the case, he was stopped short when a small, white-gloved hand appeared from inside the coach and settled in the sheriff’s larger grasp. The hand was followed by a foot wearing white leather button-top shoes.

The young woman that followed, was a sight to behold. Dressed in an elegant traveling suit and veiled hat, she was the epitome of class and breeding. Aiden’s heart hammered. Was this Corrine Smith? He hoped with every ounce of his being that it was, for she was beautiful. He hastened his steps, nearly skidding to a stop at the step leading to the platform.

“What brings you to Golden Springs, little lady?” Matt Denning asked, turning on his legendary cowboy charm.

“I do,” Aiden said firmly. “Assuming, of course, you’re Miss Smith.”

“That I am,” she confirmed. “You must be Mister Thomas.”

Aiden bowed slightly. “Yes. That would be me.”

Denning shot him a grin. “So, this is the young woman Sadie Miller can’t stop talking about.” The sheriff shifted his gaze from Aiden to Corrine and back again. “Not that I can blame her. You’re a very lovely addition to our small town.”

The stage driver dropped four large leather traveling bags at Aiden’s feet. “My horses will be grateful for the lighter load,” he joked.

When she laid her hand against the grizzled man’s arm, a spark of jealousy shot its way through Aiden.

“Thank you so much for your fine care, Sam. And, for patiently answering all my silly questions.”

Sam doffed his dusty hat. “It was my pleasure.”

She waved her hand at a second man who sat atop the stage, his scowl lifting in a half-smile. “It was nice meeting you too, Sully.”

He grunted a response before spitting tobacco onto the dirt road.

“My wagon is just over here,” Aiden explained, suddenly wishing he brought Sadie’s carriage instead. “I hope you don’t mind riding in the open.”

“There’s a parasol strapped to one of my bags,” she told him. “If you could retrieve it for me, I would appreciate it. If it’s okay, I’m going to send a telegram confirming my arrival while you load your wagon.”

Even the delicate wisp of her voice set his nerves on full alert.

LILA (RESCUE ME ~ MAIL~ORDER BRIDES - Book 4) by Author KATHLEEN LAWLESS *BOOK BIRTHDAY*

The fourth book in the Rescue Me (Mail Order Brides) series, is Lila, by Author Kathleen Lawless.

A fortune’s at stake. And Lila’s in the way.

Desperate to escape her evil stepsisters, Lila heads West as a mail order bride. When she reaches her destination, her groom is shot dead in front of her. A mysterious stranger whisks her to safety.

A former bounty hunter, Bolton specializes in retrieving sensitive government property. He discovers Lila possesses the only key that will open a stolen strong box. Against his better judgement, Bolton agrees to use Lila to flush the thieves into the open.

When plans go awry, Lila winds up fighting not only for her life but for a future with the man she’s come to love.

Available exclusively on Kindle Unlimited

Lila knotted her hands in her lap as the train car vibrated beneath her, carrying her away from the only home she’d ever known. And just when she felt like they’d never arrive, the conductor called her stop. Cheyenne. She gulped. Suddenly it felt too soon. She hadn’t finished her latest prayer that Mr. Gavin, soon to become her husband, would be a nice man. A kind gentleman who appreciated her homemaking skills. She patted her breastbone through her coarse traveling jacket, reassured by heavy weight of a silver key on a piece of twine around her neck. Then she stepped forward into her new life.

The station’s platform was bustling with activity as folks called out, pushing and shoving in all directions. Once again, she rued her short stature. For it was impossible to see over the heads of those around her.

A roughly-dressed, bandy-legged gentleman pushed his way impatiently through the crowd and gave a shifty, side-eyed look around. “Miss Sanders?”

Her eyes widened, hearing her name spoken in a nasally voice. She saw a gap where one or two teeth had been recently knocked out.

Surely this wasn’t Mr. Gavin! Perhaps her intended had sent someone in his stead?

Spittle dotted his lips as his eyes continued to dart from side to side. “You brought the key?”

Reluctantly she nodded.

“Give it to me!” A meaty hand was thrust her way but before she could move, a shot rang out. The crowd around her screamed and scattered as the man landed near her feet. She watched in horror as a fast-spreading pool of blood stained the ground below him.

Lila stood frozen, too shocked to move. Suddenly, her right elbow was grasped none-too-gently from behind. “Keep walking, head high. That’s it. Back onto the train.”

The stranger’s voice rang with authority, and a lifelong habit of doing as she was told saw her follow the newcomer’s directive. As she boarded the train, she looked over her shoulder to see two men bent over the lifeless body of the man who’d greeted her by name. They were going through his pockets.

BEATRICE (RESCUE ME ~ MAIL~ORDER BRIDES - Book 3) by Author CHERYL WRIGHT *BOOK BIRTHDAY*

The third book in the Rescue Me (Mail Order Brides) series, is Beatrice, by Author Cheryl Wright.

Cornered and assaulted, Beatrice couldn’t take it anymore, and fought back with deadly consequences.

Beatrice Gaffney had been accosted one too many times, and had reached her limit. This time she fought back, but instead of disabling her assailant, she killed him. There would be dire consequences for her actions, but she wasn’t hanging around to find out what they might be.

Tyler Harris reluctantly sent for a mail-order bride. Being hounded by his mother to produce heirs had become tiresome. He expected a carefree wife who would cook and clean and relieve his mother of that burden. What he didn’t expect was a beautiful, haunted woman who jumped at her own shadow.

It was clear to Tyler, Beatrice was hiding a deep, dark secret. When the shocking truth was finally revealed, he reeled in disbelief.

Will she clear her name, or will their happy ever after, forever elude them?

Available exclusively on Kindle Unlimited

Chapter One

Crimson Point, Montana - 1884

Beatrice Gaffney glanced about before she stepped off the train. After all this time, she prayed
she was safe.

She’d changed trains three times, waiting overnight in some towns, simply to ensure the trailwent cold. Her trail. Until now, Beatrice did not know what it felt like to be wanted by the law.

Well, that was a bit of an overreach. She wasn’t wanted exactly, but she was certain she was
being pursued. Unless she could change her identity, they would hound her until the day she
died.

It was the very reason she gave in and became a mail-order bride. Only now she wasn’t
convinced it was the right thing to do. For one thing, she didn’t know her groom. Second, just
because she married and changed her name did not mean the people chasing her would stop
looking for her.

It wasn’t her fault, despite what she was certain everyone would be saying. Horace had tried to…
she didn’t even want to think about it. She had to defend herself, but how was she to know the
outcome?

She shuddered at the memory. She’d high-tailed it out of there and hurried to see her best friend.
Meg agreed the only option was for Beatrice to leave town. After all, she hadn’t meant to do it.
He might have been vulgar and disgusting, but he didn’t deserve what she did to him.

She hurried home and packed a few essentials, then headed to the railway station. And now here
she was, standing on the platform of the Crimson Point railway station. She was about to endure
a hasty marriage to a man she did not know.

The memory of that fateful day still haunted her, and Beatrice was convinced it would for the
rest of her days. Horace Thatcher was the most revolting man she’d ever met. He had groped at
her one too many times, and the last time, she was determined not to let it continue. Except this
time she killed him.

However, if getting the chance to talk to the beautiful ER nurse comes with the treatment, he’ll feign stomach cramps for as long as it takes to get her number.

When they meet again at a candymaker’s convention, Cate has to admit to herself the charming and witty former patient has worked his way past her usual defenses. They’re definitely opposites. She’s the serious type, he’s anything but.

Available exclusively on Kindle Unlimited
Priced at just 99¢ for the first week of release!

Chapter One

Brant Mills Community Hospital
Emergency Department
Mid December

Cate Miller pulled up the list of triage assessments and took a cursory glance at the next patient’s information and initial diagnosis. Stomach pains?

“A thirty-six-year-old man with a tummy ache?” Cate said to nobody in particular. At her side, E.R. unit clerk, Sally Barton, snickered. “What did he do?” Cate asked. “Indulge in too many zany wings and pints of beer at the company Christmas party?”

“Nope. According to the triage clerk, he got it from eating candy.”

“Oh great,” Cate moaned. “It’s going to be one of those Saturday nights. I’m so glad I picked up an extra shift. I could be at the movies with one of my sisters.”

“Yeah, heaven knows you’d never waste your valuable time going out on an actual date. With a man,” Sally teased.

“All those years of nursing school wasted,” Cate responded sarcastically, “when all I had to do was date and marry myself a rich doctor, or lawyer, or circus clown.”

“Circus clown?” Sally repeated, laughing. “Maybe that’s where your patient got the candy.”

“At least this should be fast,” Cate concluded. “A bit of antacid and send him on his way.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure,” Edith Crowley, triage nurse, offered. “His blood pressure was elevated, and he spit up blood while he was waiting to be seen.”

“I’ll run a full panel of tests,” Cate conceded. “Maybe there’s more to it than an extra handful of sugar.”

“Keep your wits about you,” Edith warned. “He’s a flirt.”

“Wonderful, a thirty-six-year-old man-child who’s binged on too much candy, and thinks he’s every woman’s fantasy.”

Edith snorted a laugh. “He is kind of dreamy.”

“Well then,” Cate concluded, “maybe he can dream his way out of his sore stomach.”

Cate pushed back the curtain surrounding cubical six and got her first look at...

“Finally. I was beginning to think you’d forgotten me,” the man said.

“Mr. Jace Hamilton,” Cate responded while checking his wrist band to verify his identity. “We didn’t forget you. We just prioritized a few people ahead of you.” Rolling the necessary equipment closer to the gurney, she told him, “I’m going to take your blood pressure again to see if it’s gone down any.”

“Not likely,” he quipped before offering her his arm.

“Why? Because we’ve kept you waiting so long?”

“No. I think it’s going to skyrocket because you’re even prettier than the last nurse who strapped me into this awful contraption.”

“It’s nice to see your sore stomach hasn’t affected your flirtation gene.”

The second book in the Rescue Me (Mail Order Brides) series, is Lauren, by Author Zina Abbott.

Lauren Brower is traveling to Rawlins, Wyoming to marry a sheep rancher she met through an advertisement. Much to her dismay, a thief snatches her reticule and runs off with her tickets and most of her money. What she still has tucked away on her person is not enough to buy a replacement ticket. She is offered a way to earn her fare plus extra funds, but it means she must delay meeting her intended.

Jeb Carter, Union Pacific Special Agent, is sent to Laramie, Wyoming, to discover who is behind a string of train robberies. He plans to work solo—he always works solo—but his boss has other ideas. He comes upon a hapless damsel in distress stuck at the Omaha Union Depot. Much to his dismay, he soon receives orders to escort her to a crossroads town on the train line. There, she will work for a busy restaurant while gathering information. He is to be her contact.

Lauren encounters an unforeseen development. Jeb joins a posse search that ends in tragedy. In the process of searching for train robbers, will they be robbed of their futures?

Available exclusively on Kindle Unlimited

Jeb’s footsteps slowed as his gaze focused on a young woman dressed in a black mourning gown who stood on the platform next to the tracks of a train that had recently come from the East. Her fan was hanging from the wrist that clutched her carpetbag. On the ground several feet in front of her, a basket lay tipped on its side. With her head bowed and shoulders hunched, she held her free hand, which was fisted, over her lips. Her back was to him, and her dark, reddish-brown hair under a short-brimmed, black hat caught his eye. He slowed his footsteps and approached her from the side. “You look a bit lost, ma’am. Might I help direct you?”

Her eyebrows raised and lips parted, the woman jerked her head to face him. She glanced to the side and back. “I don’t know.” Her voice raspy, she cleared her throat. Her eyelids rimmed with tears, she blinked.

Upon gazing into her shining brown eyes ringed by dark lashes, Jeb’s breath caught. His heart began to beat faster, and his breathing rate increased. She is not the first pretty woman I’ve seen. Why am I having this reaction? He stepped forward and picked up the basket. “Where are you headed, ma’am?” He handed her the basket.

“West. To Rawlins.” She heaved several deep breaths and biting her bottom lip, she accepted the basket.

“You’re on the wrong platform for the westbound U.P. train. I’m familiar with this depot. If you’d like, I can show you where you will board. Or, if you prefer, I can find a depot employee to assist you.” Why is a young, attractive widow like her traveling alone?

“Oh, I…um…” She squeezed her eyes shut. “My-my reticule was stolen. Some young man…more a boy, really…ran up next to me and grabbed it while he cut the strings with a knife.”

“Did you see what direction he ran?” As he stepped closer, Jeb turned his gaze farther up the platform. He would have seen the miscreant if he ran the direction from which Jeb approached. Where are the railroad police when you need them?

“No. I was so startled, I froze. By the time I thought to call for help, he disappeared between those two cars.” She pointed to where two passenger coaches were joined. “I’m not sure what I will do. I kept my tickets and most of my money in my reticule so it would be easily available. Now, it’s gone. I-I have a little money left in my carpetbag, but not enough to replace my ticket. I appreciate your offer, though.” She pressed her palm to her forehead. “I believe I should find the depot and stay there while I decide what to do.”

What secret does this soldier hide?

Available exclusively on Kindle Unlimited

A shanty town in San Francisco – 1870

Three-year-old Jacob, or Jake as Belle Sharmon always called her son, clung to her hand as they left their tumbledown shack. The only thing in its favor was the fact it was cheap, and away from the tenement slums and houses of ill-repute closer to the dock area of San Francisco.

Most of the people living in this shanty town were not criminals, only desperate, down on their luck people like her. Before her husband, who was a bootmaker, had died twelve months ago, things had been only slightly better; although they were able to live in a room behind the shop he rented from Ebenezer DuPont.

Mr. DuPont was a horrible runt of a man. Not only did he own a few tumbledown shops and houses where he charged exorbitant rents, he was also a pawnbroker and money lender, as well as being her landlord. The interest he charged was so high most people who borrowed from him struggled to ever pay it back. Men sometimes paid with their lives when they couldn’t pay; as for the women, she shuddered at what he expected them to do.

“Ma, candy stick,” Jake interrupted her musing.

“I can’t, not this week. I have to pay the rent money to Mr. DuPont.” It broke her heart having to dash the hope in her son’s voice. He had little enough in life to look forward to.  I have to do something to get us out of this grinding poverty trap we’re in, she thought desperately. But what.

Margaret Tanner is an Award winning, Amazon Best Selling author. She writes sweet Historical Western romance now. Having always loved history, she started out writing Australian historical romance then graduated to westerns

She lives in Australia, is married and has three grown up sons and two gorgeous little granddaughters.

Frontier Australia and frontier America, have many similarities, isolated communities, a large single male population and a lack of eligible women. This leads to many interesting plots.

She has always loved Westerns, soaking up all the Western TV shows and movies when she was young. Bonanza was her all-time favorite show. Little Joe Cartwright was her hero. Western Author, Zane Grey was her favorite author.
