ESCAPE TO PARADISE by Author Nancy Fraser **Book Birthday**

Welcome to Romance Sweet Reads! Today, we’ll be featuring Escape to Paradise, by author Nancy Fraser, the ninth book in the new multi-author series, A Summer Vacation Romance. We're nearly to the end of this wonderful sweet/inspirational, contemporary romance series set among some of our vacation destinations. Sit back, enjoy a sneak peek, and let’s see just how far we can arm-chair travel!

Allison (Ali) Dow, thirty-two, is a driven corporate attorney who harbors the worst fear of commitment known to man (or woman). With two failed engagements under her belt, the last thing she wants is the distraction of another man unable to handle her professional success.

Jace Bailey, thirty-three, is the new head of security for Tech Savvy Apps, Inc. After ten years as a member of the military police, Jace had always planned to return to the family business once he’s discharged. However, when a good friend and former mentor recommends him for a job in corporate security, he jumps at the chance to remain a ‘protector’.

His first major off-campus assignment requires him to escort his employer’s corporate attorney to the island paradise of Grand Cayman to close a major business deal. The job should be simple until he realizes the attorney in question is the woman known around the TSS watercooler as ‘Viper’. Unfortunately, their routine business trip turns into a game of cat and mouse with a handful of corporate spies.

Can these two distinctly different individuals navigate their growing attraction while still keeping themselves and those around them safe? And, once they’re back on their home turf, will they find a way to make their relationship work, despite their differences?

Prologue

Offices of Tech Savvy Apps Inc
Simi Valley, California
The Dreaded Interview Process

Jace Bailey took a seat in the office of Nate Perkins, head of security for Tech Savvy Apps Inc. The man was imposing, only his salt and pepper hair giving away the fact he was pushing sixty with a vengeance. He didn’t say anything, just sat there scanning the contents of the file folder in front of him.

Jace hated interviews. He hadn’t done many in the past twelve years, other than at promotion time. Yet, he was pretty sure a private sector interview wasn’t nearly as complex as those of the military. Not for the first time since he’d returned to Simi Valley, he wondered why he hadn’t just followed his original plan and returned to the family business.

Because you have no interest in being a construction foreman. Face it, guarding people is in your blood.

Perkins looked up from his perusal of Jace’s resume. “Major Bailey, you come highly recommended. Your record is impressive.”

“It’s just Jace,” he said firmly. “I’m no longer military.”

The man fingered the papers a second time. “Five tours of duty, a bronze star, a silver star, and a purple heart.” Meeting Jace’s gaze, he said, “You’ll always be military, son, whether you’re wearing the uniform or not.”

His comment drew Jace’s nod and a smile he couldn’t quite hide. “I suppose you’re right. Mustering out hasn’t been nearly as simple as I thought it would be.”

“Brent Walters tells me you’re one of the best he’s ever served alongside,” Perkins commented, his gaze firmly set.

“Next to you,” Jace countered. “Brent loved regaling us with his early career exploits, and you were always prominently featured in his stories.”

“We did have some good times. And, unfortunately, some were not so good.” He paused, then asked the question Jace had been expecting since he arrived. “So, why’d you get out?”

Jace felt certain Nate Perkins would know a half-lie if he heard it, so the unvarnished truth seemed the easiest option. “I’d had enough of guarding people who had no business touring a war zone to further their political career. Especially those who refused to listen when you gave them an order.”

“I take it you lost one of your escort assignments.”

“I did,” Jace confirmed. “However, it was the fact I also lost two good buddies because of the man’s stupidity that really turned the last screw in my desire to re-up.”

“Well, we’re not concerned with why you got out, only why you want to work here?”

“My original plan was to go to work for my dad at his construction firm. However, when Brent mentioned you were looking, I couldn’t resist applying. I’m far better at security than I am at building things. I did enough of that in my teens and throughout four years of college.”

“While our work here is highly confidential, we rarely have cause for physical security of any kind. Your assignments would be—”

“Nate! Have you seen this latest report?” A woman’s sharp voice preceded her push through the half-open door. “Are these people out of their ever-loving minds?”

“Ah, Allison,” Nate responded, nodding in Jace’s direction, and narrowing his gaze toward the tall, willowy brunette at the same time. “I’m a bit busy at the moment.”

“Oh. Sorry,” she spit out. “But these numbers clearly indicate we have a problem.”

“I realize that, and I’m in the process of hopefully hiring someone to fill out our staff. Then, I can assign a cyber analyst to dig deeper into the problem.”

“Great.” She turned her attention to Jace and offered a somewhat apologetic smile. “I’ll let you get back to it then. I’ve got a brief to prepare for our—” Backpedaling to the door, she apologized, “Sorry for the interruption.” She was about to close the door behind her when she poked her head back in to add, “McKendrick’s breathing down our throats, so—”

“Out, Allison,” Perkins ordered. “Now.”

Once the door shut, Jace smothered a chuckle and asked, “Who was that?”

“That was Allison Dow, our corporate attorney in charge of contract negotiations.” Nate paused, then explained, “She’s a pistol.”

“An attorney? No wonder she seems so intense,” Jace observed.

“Oh, you don’t know the half of it. However, if you come on board, you’ll soon get used to her outbursts. She’s a perfectionist, dedicated to her job, and in line to be our General Counsel in a couple of years when our current GC retires.”

“An overachiever,” Jace guessed.

“I’m pretty sure the phrase was created with her in mind. Even if they didn’t realize it at the time.”

“You do have to admire the dedication, though,” Jace decided to point out. After all, it didn’t hurt to compliment another member of the staff.

“Oh, I do,” Perkins agreed. “A company like TSA relies on dedication and discretion. Our clients expect both. In spades.”

“I’d appreciate the opportunity to show you I can provide both attributes, and any other security-related skills you may require.”

Perkins leaned back in his chair and stared Jace straight in the eyes. He’d seen that look before. From lowly privates all the way up to four and five-star generals. He was being judged. All he had to do to secure the job was not blink or look away.

“How are your computer skills?” Perkins asked.

“Top notch. I can write code for a half dozen different programs, and in a few foreign languages.”

Perkins grinned. “How many languages do you speak?”

“Four, fluently. I can stumble through another two or three. About the only one I can’t grab a handle on is ‘women’. Believe me, I’ve tried.”

A loud snort of laughter and shake of his head sent Nate Perkins to his feet. He stretched out his hand, offering it to Jace. “None of us can do that, at least not as well as we’d like. I think we can find a spot for you here at TSA, if you’re willing to join us.”

Jace took Nate’s hand and shook it. “I think I’d like that very much. Even if I don’t get to dodge bullets on a daily basis.”

“God willing, son, you’ll never have to worry about that again.”

BEACH WEDDING ON THE ROCKS by Author Maddie Evans *Book Birthday* *A Summer Vacation Romance*

Welcome to Romance Sweet Reads! Today, we’ll be featuring Beach Wedding on the Rocks, by author Maddie James, the third book in the new multi-author series, A Summer Vacation Romance. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be sharing all twelve books in this wonderful new sweet/inspirational, contemporary romance series set among some of our vacation destinations. Sit back, enjoy a sneak peek, and let’s see just how far we can arm-chair travel!
If revenge is best served cold, then payback should be on the rocks.

Eight years after leaving Brighthead, Maine with a broken heart, Noah opens a wedding invitation from the man who destroyed Noah’s relationship with Elsie—and Noah’s only shot at lifelong love. Easy RSVP: NO.

Elsie’s letting her best friend use her vacation house for a wedding on the rocky beach—which would be great except Elsie hates the groom for his “little prank” that broke up her and Noah right after graduation. When Noah RSVPs that he’s not coming, Elsie’s not having it. Her ex had better get up to Maine now—and they’re going to give their prankster friend a little bit of what he’s dished out.

Or…a lot of what he’s dished out.

As Elsie and Noah plan (and pull off!) a series of hilarious stunts, the old feelings and questions flood back like a tide over the rocks. What begins as a pact to get payback turns into a week of missteps, mixed signals, and misguided attempts to deny everything that’s kept them apart for so long.

Available exclusively on Kindle Unlimited.

What a revolting development.

On the steps of his townhome, Noah Szymczak paused mid-shuffle through the day’s mail, staring at what had to be a wedding invitation. The last name and address in the corner meant it came from no one other than Dan Bluett, inveterate prankster and life-ruiner. And former friend.

Well, would-be former friend, if only Noah had ever actually told him off. He hadn’t. Just moved away.

Still.

With five minutes remaining of his lunch break before he’d have to return to his home office, Noah opened the envelope to reveal another envelope—which was as good a metaphor for Dan as anything Noah could have come up with. Inside that was a slice of hefty cardstock emblazoned with birds and ribbon hearts, and short choppy lines that Dan and Skye “request the honor of your presence.”

Oh, and how cute—they had a wedding hashtag. #BluettSkyes.

Of course Dan would want Noah there to witness him get married--when in effect, the last thing Dan had done before leaving for college was make sure Noah wouldn’t. Wouldn’t get married, that was.

The wedding would be in Brighthead, Maine, so Dan hadn’t gone far afield. Or maybe the location was because of Skye, his bride who’d been a year behind them at Brighthead High School.

Easy excuse. Noah had moved four hours away from Brighthead, and in the immortal words of his father, “I didn’t leave anything there.” Noah could have opened the third envelope, which undoubtedly contained the RSVP card, but instead he used his phone to scan the QR code and fill out the website form. “Sorry, won’t be able to make it.”

After that, he had one minute left before logging back in for his job. He spent his minute the best way he could: dropping that invitation into the shredder. It entered as a bad memory and emerged as sharp-edged diamonds. And that is enough of that.

***
At least, that would have been enough of that, if Noah hadn’t awakened the next morning to a text from a number he hadn’t seen in eight years. Timestamped at two o’clock in the morning. From Elsie Jenner.

Elsie?

“You had better get here for that wedding.”

DAYTONA DO OVER by Author London James **Book Birthday** *A Summer Vacation Romance*

Welcome to Romance Sweet Reads! Today, we’ll be featuring Daytona Do Over, by Author London James, the first book in the new multi-author series, A Summer Vacation Romance. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be sharing all twelve books in this wonderful new sweet/inspirational, contemporary romance series set among some of our vacation destinations. Sit back, enjoy a sneak peek, and let’s see just how far we can arm-chair travel!
Lexi Carter was sure of two things. One, she loved her boyfriend, Shane, and two, although she planned an elaborate trip to see the Coke Zero 400, she knew nothing about cars. Nothing. After she catches Shane sneaking off with another woman, Lexi now has two choices—go on this expensive, already-paid-for trip or be out thousands of dollars. Not wanting to waste money, and figuring she can just skip the race, Lexi packs her bags and heads off to sunny Daytona, Florida, and her fabulous rented beach house.

Racecar owner and driver Max Stone has one thing on his mind—the NASCAR Championship Series at the end of the year. He has all the qualifying points needed, several wins under his belt, and was in the prime of his career. At least he was until the association found tainted gas in his race car after the last race. His crew chief isn’t talking and although he knew nothing of the gas, Max is facing a horrible scandal and one that could end his season. To hide away from the press, he flees his home to hide out in a rented beach house in Daytona while he awaits his trial.

When the pair find out that the travel agent double booked their private beach house, they must either spend their vacations together under one roof or find other accommodations. With the race coming up, however, any available rooms are lackluster at best. Can they make the most of an awkward situation? And will Max get the okay to race again before it’s too late?

Available exclusively on Kindle Unlimited

I don’t know why I’m doing this for him.

Lexi Carter stood in the middle of her San Francisco apartment, surveying all the birthday decorations. It was her boyfriend, Shane’s birthday, and she was throwing him a surprise party.

Him.

The same man who she had been arguing with all week over what they would and would not do on their vacation to Florida next week.

So why was she still throwing him a party? She didn’t exactly know, but she was sure that although they’d been fighting about everything from the trip to her moving into his apartment, they still loved each other, and she still wanted to be with him.

Perhaps the party would not only cheer him up, but it would set things right between them.

“When is Shane supposed to be home?” Tori, Lexi’s best friend from longer than she cared to admit, stood next to the coffee table unrolling another pack of streamers. The diamond on her wedding ring flashed in the light from the ceiling, and her growing pregnant belly popped out under her dress.

So much had changed in the year since Lexi left Clarksville to move to San Francisco to be near Shane, and whenever she saw her friend, she couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt. Or perhaps it was regret. They always talked about being married and pregnant at the same time so their kids could grow up together.

“Shouldn’t be long. I think about a half an hour, and he’ll be here.”

“Where does he think you are?”

“On my way to visit you for the weekend.” Lexi laughed and reached out for the roll of streamers. “I told him I would be back in time to get everything together for our trip, though.”

“Have you guys decided what you’re going to do the entire week in Florida?”

Lexi shook her head. “Not exactly. We have the race day, so that’s one day planned, but we haven’t been able to agree on the other six days. I want to see the sights like there is a manatee island.”

“I know how much you love marine life.”

“I know, right? I swear I still think I was a fool not to go to college and become a marine biologist.” Lexi bent down and wrapped the streamers around one of the legs of the coffee table. “It was just too much school, though. I didn’t have the patience . . . or the money.” She moved over to the next leg, and, after wrapping all four, she stood. “But I also wanted to see some historical sites, maybe go for a hike or a bike ride in a nature preserve or state park.”

“And what does he want to do?”

“Park himself on the beach with a cooler.”

“The whole time?”

“The whole time. He said it’s his birthday vacation too, so he should get dibs on what we do.”

“Well, it may be his birthday, but you’re the one footing the bill.”

“Yeah, I know. And a week at a rented beach house in Florida didn’t come cheap. Plus, the tickets to the Coke Zero 400. They were a pretty penny, too. But he’s looking forward to it, and it is a vacation. Even if I’m stuck on the beach, it will still be relaxing.”

Tori cocked her head to the side, and her eyebrows furrowed. “Is it odd to you he’s suddenly into car racing?”

“At first it was, but he’s a sportswriter. I figure one of them is bound to become an obsession.” Lexi waved off her words and moved around to the kitchen, setting the unused roll of streamers on the counter. She made her way to the refrigerator and opened it, bending down to grab not one but two vegetable trays from the shelf before she set them on the kitchen table and went back for the two meat trays and the two fruit trays.

“What else do you need help with?” Tori asked.

“Nothing. I put everything out. We are just waiting for a few more guests—” A knock rapped on the door. “Which are probably here now, and we should be all set.” She motioned over to the couch where Dane, Tori’s husband, sat looking through a magazine he’d grabbed off the end table. “Go sit with your husband and relax.”

While Tori did as Lexi said, Lexi answered the door, welcoming the last guests to the party. She texted Shane and smiled as her phone buzzed. “He said he’s almost home,” she said, shaking her phone in the air.

All the guests quieted down. Some hid behind pieces of furniture while others just took their seats on one of the couches or dining room chairs. Lexi stood by the door. Her heart thumped, and although Shane had said in his text that he was tired and would probably just go to bed when he got home, her excitement sent butterflies fluttering in her stomach.

She couldn’t wait to surprise him and see his reaction.

Keys jingled from the other side of the door, and one slid into the lock. It flipped, but before the door opened, a woman giggled on the other side.

Lexi froze.

Welcome to my little corner of the internet! So who am I? Well, it's quite simple actually. I'm an author who writes in her fuzzy pants and loves her family, horses, and cats! I write Sweet Historical Romance and Sweet Contemporary Romance. If you're looking for something with just a bit more heat (not too much) or love Women's Fiction, check out my pen name Angela Christina Archer!

Growing up in Nevada, reading was always a pastime that took second place to trail riding and showing horses. When I did find the time in my youth to curl up with a book, I found enjoyment in the Saddle Club Series, the Sweet Valley High series, and the classics of Anne of Green Gables, The Box Car Children, and Little House on the Prairie. Although writing always piqued my curiosity, it wasn’t until September 2009 that I worked up the courage to put my passion to paper and started my debut novel.

I live on a ranch with my husband, two daughters, and many farm animals. When I'm not writing, I spend my days from dawn to dusk as a stay at home, homeschooling mom. I also work in my garden and takes care of my many farm animals, as well as I love to bake and cook from scratch. While I don't show horses anymore, I still love to trail ride my paint horse, Honky, as well as I, enjoy teaching my daughters how to ride their horses, Chubs and Cowboy.
