Chapter One
Mid-August

The Texas air hung hot and humid as Tamsyn pounded up the exterior steps to her garage apartment at the same address where she’d lived since birth—her delivery taking place in her parents’ master bedroom. Darn the stupid summer highway work and the detour that cost her and every other driver at the east end of the county an extra twenty minutes. She dashed into the living room and adjusted the temperature on the window air-conditioner, kicking the fan to its highest speed.

Holding her arms straight out from her body, she stood in front of the unit’s vents, letting the cool air chill her heated skin. Only thirty-seven minutes before she was due downtown at Norwood Enterprises for the weekly budget meeting. Closing her eyes, she though of her late mother’s recipes in the tole-painted wooden box on the counter. None of them could be mixed and baked within twenty minutes.

A rebellious though niggled. Why was she responsible for bring a baked treat to the meetings with her father and two brothers? She’d started the habit four years ago when she became the manager of the family’s pumpkin patch. That first day, she’d wanted to celebrate. She saw the job offer as a sign of faith that Dad trusted her abilities. Since then, because she was a people-pleaser, she’d just continued the practice. Not once had anyone else offered to make a stop at a bakery.

Well, not today.

As a young girl, I spent lots of my free time lying on my bed reading about fascinating characters having exciting adventures in places far away and in other time periods. In later years, I discovered and devoured family saga stories and romance novels. At a certain point, I grew cocky enough to think I could write one of these stories. Then I learned what a balancing act writing a novel is, but I wasn’t deterred. Twelve years later, my first fiction sale was achieved--a confession story.

After reading Debra Holland’s “Montana Sky” series and Caroline Fyffe’s “Prairie Hearts” series, I wanted to try my hand at historicals. I was thrilled to be invited to contribute to Sweetwater Springs Christmas and continued writing in the Montana Sky world by developing my Entertainers of the West series.

Married with 4 adult children and 2 granddaughters, I now write heartwarming contemporary and historical stories with a touch of humor and a bit of sass from my home in the southern California mountains. Lots of my stories are set in Texas where I lived for a dozen years.

Once in town, Tara backed the trailer adjacent to the designated area where the maze was to be built. A man with a clipboard came up to the side of the truck. “Bring it back over there,” he ordered, and pointed to a different location.

She’d never seen this guy before. Didn’t he know that she’d been doing this for the past ten years? Okay, maybe not driving the truck and trailer in—but still, she and her family had been donating hay and helping to build the maze every year. She rolled down the window. “Who are you?” she asked.

“Derek Tucker. I’m this year’s designer of the maze.”

“Woo-hoo for you,” she quipped, then stopped herself from getting even more upset with the new guy. “We’ve been delivering the hay for the past ten years.”

“Oh, okay, thanks. You can unload it over there.”

She raised her eyebrows, fuming inside, but held her tongue and backed the trailer into the spot where they had always unloaded the hay.

“Hey, I said to unload it over there!” he barked out.

“The maze is built here,” she snapped back, “therefore we unload the hay next to where it is being built, making it less work for all involved.”

“No. I changed the location to over there.”

“What? Why?” Who was this guy and what was he doing here?

Mayor Larson came over and extended her hand. “Tara, thank you for your family’s contribution again this year.”

“You’re welcome, Mayor. However, there seem to be some alterations going on. This man is saying he moved the location of the maze?” she said, questioning the mayor’s wisdom in allowing such a change.

“Yes. He felt people could watch from the second floor as folks try to make their way through the maze.”

“You mean to stare down at them and make fun at them?” Tara asked.

Mayor Larson’s eyebrows pinched together. “I hadn’t thought about that. You’re right, Tara. Let’s build the maze in its usual spot.”

The man took off his hat. A cascade of curls bounced on his head. “Mayor Larson, we discussed this.”

“And I wasn’t thinking about the potential of less-than-favorable comments coming from spectators in the building. Tara’s right, the location we’ve always used is best.” The mayor walked away.

The man glowered at her. She ignored him and went to disconnect the trailer from the truck.

We continue with, KREW, Book 14 in the series, by Author Farrah Lee.

Oh how the mighty fall!! Especially when they don’t see it coming.

Dr. Krew Adams is every girl's dream. He has the smile, the brains, and the personality to make him a favorite at the hospital, but he’s not interested in being anyone's dream. If you ask him, he’ll tell you all his friends were dragged down, but not him. She doesn’t have time for a man in her life, including her big brother's best friend she hasn’t seen in fifteen years. He’s changed in all the right ways, except his attitude about love. Chapter One
Krew

It was our last week of residence and the push was almost over. It had been a long haul—a few had crumbled, the rest held on. We were standing around the nurse’s station talking in between patients when Jerry walked in announcing he “did it” and that she said yes.

“Aw, man, really? Why?” I banged my head on the counter for effect.

“You’re such a bummer dude. I lover her, that’s why,” Jerry argued.

Everyone else congratulated him then turned to me as if I’d made an announcement.

“What?” I looked around at them.

“What’s your plan?”

“Plan? I don’t have a plan. You’ve all gotten engaged or married and I am proud to be single. That makes you crazy, no me.” I picked up my clipboard.

“That’s all you have to say?”

“No, sorry Cindy,” I said to the womanly resident among us. “You’ve been married for a while now, so not you. It’s not that I’m not happy for each one of you, I’m just saying...no hassles here.”

“No love either,” someone said. “Besides, Dr. Jackson is single still.”

“No, he eloped last week,” one of the nurses said.

“Well, then, that makes it official.”

“What’s official?”

“I am the last man standing.”

I wrote my first story in 4th grade....it still sits in a box today. My passion to write was reignited by my daughter who reminded me it’s never too late.

I’m a native Floridian from a large family and according to them if you weren’t at the beach every weekend with fried chicken and potato salad then you weren’t feeling well. I was Raised on old fashion values and church. I went on to marry the cute boy who stepped on the school bus my first day of middle school.

Thirty-five years later I have three amazing kids and two wonderful grandsons I’d call my greatest accomplishments in life. Now it’s finally my time...to write the stories in my head that only I’ve heard until now.

You know who he is... the confirmed bachelor. The fellow who claims no woman will ever tempt him enough to succumb. Cupid will never hit his mark.

Well, guess what? We’ve got fourteen feisty heroines who are about to change their minds.

Chapter One
Piper

The door of the Busy Bean coffeehouse blew open in a gust of wind and slammed loudly against its hinges. Piper, along with everyone else in the café, jumped, and the whir of conversation from moments before stopped as everyone looked toward the café’s entrance.

A man’s large frame loomed in the open doorway, a bouquet of autumn flowers obscuring his face. The arrangement was certainly eye-catching, consisting of roses in burgundy and fuchsia, with bursts of pink dianthus, orange mini carnations, and pincushion sparks. Green palm fronds framed the show-stopping display.

“Ow!” Piper yelped. Distracted, she’d forgotten to stop pressing the button on the espresso machine, and boiling liquid spilled over the edges of the paper cup in her hand. Setting the cup onto the counter, she reflexively licked her burned finger.

The balding, bespectacled head of the delivery man peered out from behind the flowers as he hurried inside the shop. A tall man wearing a brown scarf and beret stood up from a nearby table and closed the door behind him.

“Goodness!” The delivery man exclaimed, smoothing the few strands of his hair over his shiny pate with his free hand. “I almost got blown away out there!”

Piper smiled ruefully and waved. “Hi, Sam,” she called, hurrying over to the sink behind the counter and lifting the tap. The stream of cool water instantly soothed her reddened skin. “It is definitely blustery, even for a September day in Pumpkin City,” she said.

“What a beautiful bouquet,” the petite woman standing at the counter remarked. Her gray hair was pulled back into a tight bun, and she clutched a dark-green knitted bag to her side that was nearly as big as she was.

“Thank you,” said the florist, traversing the small eating area to join them at the coffee bar. “My wife Bea will be tickled to hear that. Our 13-year-old grandniece, Mary Kate, helped designed this arrangement—it’s called ‘A Beautiful Sight.’” He gazed at it, smiling fondly, before continuing.

“Mary Kate is one of Bea’s Amish relatives, you see,” he explained. “The women in her family run a stand about an hour or so outside of town where they sell flowers from their garden. We try to buy as many of our flowers from them as we can for Harvest Blooms—that’s our flower shop down on Gourd Street.”

“Really!” The customer exclaimed, her eyes widening.

“Yep,” Sam said, nodding. “I don’t think you’re from around here, since I don’t recognize you, but in case you didn’t already know, this part of Pennsylvania has quite a large Amish population. Mary Kate’s older brother, Jasper, actually drives her into Pumpkin City in his horse and buggy when she comes into the shop on weekends to help Bea. My wife’s become quite fond of the child.”

Author Annee Jones loves to write all things romance, fantasy, cozy mystery, & more. She is

DONOVAN (Last Man Standing - Book 13) by Author Kari Lemor **Book Birthday**

Welcome to Romance Sweet Reads. Today, we’ll share the thirteenth book in a brand new, sweet, contemporary romance series. Last Man Standing, written by fourteen best-selling and award winning authors, is a collection of stories about stubborn men who insist they’ll never be caught in the “marriage trap”. It’s also about the fourteen women who will change their minds. Every book in the series is a standalone, linked only by the series premise. Come on along as we watch the mighty fall... in love that is!

We continue with, DONOVAN, Book 13 in the series, by Author Kari Lemor.
Going, going, gone, to the lady who wants sweet revenge.

Magnolia Popham never forgot the way Donovan Sinclair humiliated her when she worked for his family. Years later, he’s on the auction block to raise money for the children’s hospital, and she’s got the perfect plan to pay him back. A month mucking stalls and feeding chickens is just the thing to make him see what it feels like to be the hired help.

Donovan never meant to embarrass Maggie, yet now he’s paying the price. He didn’t know one stolen kiss years ago could cause so many problems. Toiling beside her at Popham Farm shows him the successful woman she’s become, and he’d like to get closer. Even with the drudgery of working the land, he wants nothing more than to bid on her love…and win.

Available in e-Book exclusively on Kindle Unlimited
Also available in Print.

“Eight thousand for this strong, strapping man to do with as you please. According to our rules, of course,” Cissy clarified, but Donovan wondered how vigorously they enforced those rules.

“Do I hear nine thousand for Donovan Sinclair?”

“Nine thousand.” Mrs. Wisenthall was determined. The others seemed to have dropped out of the race.

“We have nine thousand dollars for this handsome man. Any other takers?” Cissy waited and glanced around. Donovan couldn’t see more than shapes sitting at the tables.

“Okay, then. Going once, going twice—”

“Fifteen thousand dollars.”

Donovan froze. The voice wasn’t one of the ones who’d been bidding before. This one was soft as a breeze and sweet as honey with a lilting southern accent.

“Fifteen thousand. Any other bids?” Cissy cocked her head, but Mrs. Wisenthall remained silent. “Going once. Going twice. I think we have a winner.”

Donovan could make out the shape of a woman walking toward the stage. And what a shape it was. The dress was classy, floral, and hugged her figure lovingly, stopping about an inch above her knee. High heels accentuated her long, trim legs and clicked on the wood floor as she approached. A white, large-brimmed hat perched on top of her head, covering all but a long curl of brunette hair that swirled across one shoulder, then dipped between her breasts.

Well now. This was a new circumstance. Maybe he could forgive his mother if he got to spend some quality time with this exquisite creature. Provided she knew it was a temporary situation.

Cissy cleared her throat as the mystery woman sauntered closer and tipped her head up. As Donovan took in her features, memories drifted through his mind, and the blood drained from his face.

“Donovan Sinclair sold for fifteen thousand dollars to Magnolia Popham.”

Kari Lemor has always been a voracious reader. One of those kids who had the book under the covers or under the desk at school. Even now she has been known to stay up until the wee hours finishing a good book. Romance has always been her favorite, stories of people fighting through conflict to reach their happily ever after.

Writing wasn't something she enjoyed when young and only in the last few years began putting the stories that ran rampant in her head, down on paper.

Now that her kids are all grown and have moved out, she uses her spare time to create character driven stories of love and hope.

She spends her time with her husband divided between a small town in New England and beautiful St. Augustine.

You know who he is... the confirmed bachelor. The fellow who claims no woman will ever tempt him enough to succumb. Cupid will never hit his mark.

Well, guess what? We’ve got fourteen feisty heroines who are about to change their minds.

CHANCE (Last Man Standing - Book 12) by Author Peggy Jaeger **Book Birthday**

Welcome to Romance Sweet Reads. Today, we’ll share the twelvth book in a brand new, sweet, contemporary romance series.

We continue with, CHANCE, Book 12 in the series, by Author Peggy Jaeger.

Chance Miller, divorce lawyer extraordinaire, knows the whole happily ever after dream is an urban myth. He deals with miserable and wedded warring couples every day and swears staying single keeps him sane and happy. His friends and family consider him the last single man standing and fear he’ll never find someone and settle down. But Chance relishes his carefree status and unencumbered lifestyle and has no plans to change anything.

Fredrika Poole already experienced her one great love, and the widow can’t read any future romance in her tea leaves. She’s content to bake, run her business, and care for her daughter.

Will his last man standing status go unchallenged? Or will Freddie be the one woman he wants…but can never have?

Available in eBook exclusively on Kindle Unlimited
Also available in Print.

Chance opened his eyes and before he could look down and assess the damage done to his clothing found a pair of the most beautiful green eyes he’d ever seen gazing at him with worry creasing a perfect brow. A halo of copper-colored hair sat secured in a high ponytail, a pencil sticking out of the center of the knot. Skin the color of pale cream glowed with health. A tiny depression in the center of the chin was so unexpected Chance found himself staring at it for a few beats before he lifted his gaze back to her eyes.

“I can’t believe she threw her coffee at you,” the woman said, shaking her head. She slammed a fist on her hip. “What a waste of six bucks. Thank goodness it was a cold brew. Here,” she shoved a stack of napkins at him. “I don’t have a proper towel to give you. I still need to get supplies in. These will help, though, sop some of it up.”

The notion he should take the napkins drifted across his mind but he couldn’t manage to get his hands working. He was simply unable to do anything but stare at her. Covered in baggy blue overalls with a stark white t-shirt under then and white sneakers on her feet, she was the furthest thing from the type of woman he was usually drawn to. Six-foot models who were looking for a night on the town and free champagne cocktails were more his speed. But there was something so indescribably alluring about this woman dressed in clothes that did nothing for her, he simply couldn’t take his eyes off her.

A tiny head tilt as she stared at him and the subsequent slide of her ponytail to the side propelled Chance out of his stunned stupor. Blinking like he had ten eyelashes stuck under his lid he shook his head a few times then took the proffered napkins with a simple, “Thanks.”

While he began patting at his assuredly ruined suit, she asked, “Friend of yours?”

He barked out a laugh. “Hardly.”
