Heather Llewelyn couldn’t believe what she’d just overheard coming from the other end of the deck. The Bay House was one of her favorite places to eat, but this pig-headed jerk had made her feel sick to her stomach.

Heather reached for a roll and applied the butter with a little too much force, making it crumble in her hand. “Who does he think he is?”

“My brother is quite opinionated when it comes to females, having his heart broken by the same woman, twice.” Her friend Jonelle smirked. “He’ll probably hang the plaque on the wall of his office, right next to the awards he’s received for his volunteer work in saving the humpback whales. You’re the perfect female to make him eat his words.”

“I’ll do it! Just call me Farmer Heather, but inflation is about to hit—the cost of my milk just went up.”

I’ve always been a romantic at heart and I married my high school sweetheart. I make my home in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. Before I let the dog out, I make sure there aren’t any bears around.

I’m a mom with two grown children who have given me six grandchildren. Two live with me and the other four live in Florida. I visit them twice a year.

We love to travel. Many of the places we’ve visited have inspired me to use as a storyline. I took a land/sea tour of Alaska. I loved it so much, I wrote Frozen Hearts, a romantic suspense that re-creates the entire trip. I live fifteen minutes from the Delaware Water Gap. A Timeless Kiss, the third book in my US Park Ranger series, is based on the troubled history of the national recreation area. I never know what will give me an inspiration, but my mind is always working.

I can hear you asking the question, does she ever stop writing? That’s a Yes! When I’m not giving couples their happily-ever-after, you can find me in the kitchen, baking, especially cookies. I’ve been dubbed the cookie queen by my family and friends. You’ll find a new recipe every month on my website.

He's single because there's no way to take someone else along for the ride, not in a life like he's living.

When Drake's best friend gets engaged, everyone laughs that Drake is the last man standing--the only single guy left on their team. "That's not true," he says. "Sunita is single." Dead silence. “Make it hot.”

Keeping himself motionless in the water, Drake Stillman positioned the stick welder close to the oil rig riser and followed the edge of the flange. Light and bubbles erupted from the tip, and he adjusted his angle to have a better view. The bubbles diffracted the light of his headlamp, and the white glow of the weld added to the confusion.

He pulled back the welder. “Make it cold.”

On the rig, his tender Micah would be throwing the switch to cut off the current. Drake pulled the hammer from his belt and tapped off the slag from the edge of the weld.

“One more to go,” he murmured.

Through the helmet, he heard Micah say, “One more on this riser. Lots more to go.”

“One more for me,” Drake shot back. He tucked the hammer into his belt and raised the welder. “Then I’m done for the dive and done for this tour. Make it hot.”

Again came the light, but also the lack of noise. Welding should make a sound, except all around Drake, the water muted it. Water made his job so dangerous and also so beautiful. Water moved him in one direction while he fought to keep still. The entire Gulf of Mexico was his playground and his financial security—his ticket to the rest of his life, and possibly the cause of his death.

What percent of the Earth was water? That was Drake’s realm.

“Make it cold.” He tucked away the welder and raised the glare shield over his visor, then swam down to the final flange. “Micah, mark my depth. I want to get paid for these six feet.”

A yellow robot puttered over to Drake, and he waved at the camera mounted to its front.

“Sunita says hi,” Micah reported. “She just confirmed your depth.”

Drake reached into his utility belt for a new flange. “My bank account thanks her.”

“Also, she says to look behind you.”

Drake laughed. “Oh, no.”

“Oh, yes. I’m seeing her screen.”

Drake pivoted, expecting to find a shark, but instead he found a half dozen barracuda, all of them intrigued by this predator surrounded by lights and hoses.

With no peripheral vision in the hat, Drake wouldn’t have known these guys were even here. Micah laughed. “You have a fan club.”

Maddie Evans is a slightly offbeat romantic who believes in the combination of love and hard work. When she's not writing stories, you can find her exploring dirt trails on her bike or jogging around town.

They hadn’t spoken since. Last he knew, she was an IT director in Detroit. Oliver usually told him when she was coming to California, but not this time. When their eyes finally met, she folded her arms over her stomach, trying to cover herself. All the movement did was show off her cleavage. His eyebrows lifted at her futile effort.

She glared at him.

Perez frowned. “Is everything okay?”

Theo answered yes the same time as Emma.

“Okay, then.” Perez held out his hand. “Let’s see your driver’s licenses.”

Jace hurried up the steps to the last cottage on the right. This was it. He'd made it. At least… he thought it was the right cottage. He squinted at his keycard, barely able to make out the number with only the dim light of the crescent moon shining above. Number 12. Yep. It matched the number beside the door.

He ran a hand through his hair and shook off the snow clinging to the strands across his forehead. It was really starting to come down now, and with his sluggish, tired body, he could only feel grateful that he’d made it to his destination in one piece.

The door to the cottage creaked as Jace pushed it open. He cringed at the sound. Oiling hinges had suddenly become the first thing on his to-do list in the morning. He flipped on a light, gaping as he glanced around the interior of the front room. Was this a joke? Had the 1970s gotten sick and traveled through time to throw up all over the inside of the cottage? Maybe his best friend thought he had an affinity for the Brady Bunch?

The carpet was an orange shag with a green love seat situated in the middle. The lamps on either side of the couch were gold with brown fringe draping from the shades. The ceiling was the same popcorn texture he’d had in his room as a kid and the walls were covered with dark brown paneling that reminded him of his grandma’s basement.

“Wonderful,” he groaned as he dropped his heavy bag on the floor. The room even smelled musty and old like no one had taken the time to air it out in the last fifty years. Oh, well. He’d only be living here during the weeklong events of the wedding. He didn’t need to feel as if he was staying in a five-star luxury hotel.

Jace sighed and moved toward the adjoining kitchen. The chipped green sink and the lack of a dishwasher didn’t make him feel any better. At least this cottage was staying consistent with its retro vibe. He planned to let Wyatt know in no uncertain terms that he didn't appreciate his sense of humor, but that could wait until morning.

Jace loosened his tie and turned toward the hallway, his fatigue getting the better of him. Now, he could only pray that the bed wasn’t decades old with vermin living in it. But before he could take a single step to seek out the bedroom, a door opened at the end of the hall. A bright light splashed across the carpet and wall, steam billowing out behind it. His muscles tightened as someone stepped out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel. He blinked once then twice, instantly recognizing the dark-haired woman—the same dark-haired woman who’d left him at the altar five years before.

He swallowed, the heart he thought was long dead surprised him by suddenly sprinting back to life. What the devil was she doing in his cottage? Were they double-booked? “Andi?”

Andrea Reed—the only person he’d wanted to avoid during the week—turned with a start and screeched, instantly covering a hand over herself before bolting back into the bathroom and slamming the door behind her.

“I don’t know who you are,” she screamed through the thin door, “but you better get out of here before I call the cops!”

Same old demanding Andi. It was nice to see that some things hadn’t changed. But had she honestly not recognized him? What would she think after she found out that the man she loathed was likely sharing her living quarters? Nausea swirled through his stomach. Oh, yes, Wyatt had a lot of explaining to do.

“Andi…” he breathed, his voice coming out deep and scratchy, her name sounding foreign on his lips after he’d refused to say it over the last half-decade. “It’s just me… Jace.”

Kandice Geddes was born and raised beside the red hills of St. George, Utah. She discovered her love of writing as a small child and began creating stories about mermaids falling for dashing princes. Thank you, Disney. And it only continued from there.

She graduated from Southern Utah University with a track scholarship in Elementary Education and taught 1st Grade for four years.

While living in northern Colorado, she rediscovered her love of writing, especially within the world of sweet romance, and has been pursuing it ever since.

Some of her other loves are: reading, drawing, sugar cookies, watching Disney movies (shocker I know), and spending time with her swoony husband and two highly spirited boys.
