TRAPPED IN GRAND FALLS by Author CHERYL WRIGHT (Christmas Bride Dilemma ~ Book 1)

Welcome back to Romance Sweet Reads. Today we're going to begin our Christmas in July celebration with the launch of a brand-new, eight book, multi-author series. Christmas Bride Dilemma is sure to put you in the mood and, if you're in the middle of a hot summer, we might cool you off a bit, too!

The first book in the series is Trapped in Grand Falls, by bestselling and award-winning author, Cheryl Wright.

Did Abigail escape one disaster only to find herself in the midst of another?

Abigail was ecstatic about her upcoming marriage. When her fiancé unexpectedly kidnaps her, she is shocked and fearful. Driven by her desire to survive, she plans a daring escape.

Benjamin drives for his own stagecoach company. Breaking down not far from Grand Falls was a stroke of luck. Any further away, and the situation could have been dire. Already smitten with his passenger, Abigail, on hearing the young woman’s story, he vows to find a way to help her. Teaching her to protect herself brings them even closer together.

Is it simply a case of the pupil falling for the teacher, or could something more permanent come from this relationship?

Chapter One

Devil’s Edge, Montana, 1880s

Abigail Brooks listened carefully.

The house was finally quiet. She’d heard the front door shut maybe an hour ago, perhaps longer, after she’d heard the clip-clop of horses hooves heading into the barn. It wasn’t long until she heard the bedroom door close, and there had been no sound since. Did that mean it was safe to make her move?

She pulled on her coat and gloves, then carefully slid open the window.

She winced at the creaking sound it made at first, but breathed a sigh of relief when it stopped a short time later. The icy wind blowing into the room had her shivering, despite her warm clothes and thick coat. Abigail pulled the collar up around her neck, then climbed out the window and into the snow.

Thankfully, it had only begun snowing in the past two days. It was not heavy, more flurries than anything. That meant she wouldn’t leave evidence of which route she’d taken. It was an immense relief.

If only Abigail knew before what she knew now. Samuel Bosworth appeared to be a kind man, a caring man. He’d taken her to supper and brought her gifts. Nothing overly expensive, but nice things she would never have brought for herself. He treated her with respect, and Abigail was falling in love with him.

When he asked her to marry him, Abigail was thrilled. She’d never felt this way before, and never had a man paid her this kind of attention.

Then he took her home to meet his parents.

Her first clue about trouble was almost the moment they arrived. The cottage appeared empty. There was no light showing through the windows, despite the lateness of the day. No smoke coming from the chimney, and no one greeted them at the door.

A shiver ran through her as he lovingly helped her down from the buggy, then guided her to the front door. Samuel pulled out a key and unlocked it.

That was the moment Abigail realized something was very wrong.

As he turned the key in the door, she glanced about. Abigail looked for an escape, but there was none. They were in the middle of nowhere—well outside the town’s edge. No matter where she looked, there was absolutely nowhere to run.

He picked her up and carried Abigail gently over the threshold. Had he believed crossing the front door with her meant they were man and wife? Something inside her shifted at that moment, and Abigail was at first fearful, then suddenly terrified. Her entire body trembled.

What did he have planned for her?

Samuel lit a lantern, indicated for her to sit down, then lit the fire. He then left the cottage, locking the door behind him. Scared witless, Abigail ran to the window watching his every move.

The gentle man, who had moments ago kidnapped her, patted his horse, then led it toward the barn. It was as though there were two sides to him.

What he would do next, Abigail did not know. She knew, however, she must escape.
